The shelf life of PCBs is determined based on their surface finishes. According to IPC standards, the shelf life of PCBs is as follows:

ENEPIG (Electroless Nickel Electroless Palladium Immersion Gold) - 12 months

The predominant green color of circuit boards is due to the solder mask. The solder mask is a protective layer that is applied over the copper circuits printed on the fiberglass core.
